Karioi currently runs 50 ewes. More than 40 of these are pure White Suffolk while the remainder are WSxPerendale bred successively from the initial Mt Guardian Perendale ewes.
Since the founding of Karioi White Suffolk 30 years ago the breeding emphasis has been on producing sound sheep with robust constitution. From the mid 1990s this has extended to include excellent performance figures on Lambplan with particular focus on muscling. Every sire used by Karioi from 1995 to today has tested positive for muscle, negative for fat, had no scurs, and had easy lambing shoulders.
Notably, the entire current Karioi flock has high Eating Quality figures and all rams for sale place in the top 40% of all Australian terminals on the Lambplan Eating Quality index. Read more on the Eating Quality page.
The entire flock has been free of footrot since 2013 and all rams are tested annually to verify brucellosis certification.
Ram hoggets will be available for purchase from November 2018 and White Suffolk and WSxPerendale ewes will be available in January post weaning.
